Since UPU is a global network, cross-checks can help:
Sender’s national post: Input your number for more localised scans.
Recipient country’s post: Check for end-stage updates.
Direct calls or emails: Contact national posts involved for clarification.
UPU doesn’t offer a dedicated mobile app, but these methods keep you informed.
UPU uses a standardised 13-character format:
Two letters at the start indicate the service type (e.g., EE for express, RR for registered).
Nine digits in the middle.
Two letters at the end represent the country code of the sending post.
This universal format ensures consistency across global postal networks.
Sample Tracking Numbers:

RR987654321US
CP135792468MY
Your number will follow this pattern, ending with the sender country’s code.
UPU handles various types of international shipments:
Standard mail: Letters, postcards, and small packets.
Registered mail: Adds security and tracking confirmation.
EMS (Express Mail Service): Priority handling for speed.
Parcels: Heavier items, typically up to 20–30 kg, depending on national rules.
Always pack securely, label clearly, and check customs regulations at your local post office. Ideal for documents, gifts, light goods, or e-commerce shipments.
Tracking updates show the parcel’s journey step by step:
Pre-Shipment: Info entered, not yet dispatched.
Accepted: Received at the origin post.
In Transit: Moving between hubs or countries.
Processed at Facility: Sorted at a centre.
Customs Clearance: Under inspection at borders.
Out for Delivery: On the way to the recipient.
Delivered: Safely received.
These statuses help you gauge progress at a glance.
Delivery varies by service and country:
Domestic: 1–7 days standard, faster with express.
International:
Nearby countries: 3–10 days
Far countries (e.g., Asia to the US): 7–21 days
Extended delays are possible with customs inspections
EMS: Cuts international delivery to 3–10 days.
Holidays, customs checks, or high volume may add extra time—plan accordingly.
No updates: Global systems may lag 24–48 hours; check sender or recipient post.
Invalid number: Ensure the 13-character format and correct country code.
Customs hold: Paperwork or fees may be required; contact the sender.
Lost or delayed parcels: Report to the origin post with details.
Marked delivered but missing: Verify with the local post office.
Choosing registered mail or EMS increases tracking accuracy and reduces risks.
