Australia Post tracking numbers follow a specific format. Most tracking numbers contain 13 characters - starting with 2 letters, followed by 9 digits, and ending with "AU".
Example format: EE 999 999 999 AU
Where to find your tracking number:
Receipt from post office - When you send items over the counter, your tracking number appears on the receipt
Barcode sticker - For tracked services like prepaid satchels, check the barcode label
Email confirmation - Online purchases usually include tracking numbers in order confirmations
Track Advice service - If the sender provides your email, Australia Post sends tracking updates automatically
When you track your parcel, you'll see different status updates:
Processing - Australia Post received your shipping information, but hasn't scanned the package yet. Wait up to 24 hours for the first scan.
In Transit - Your parcel is moving through the delivery network on its way to you.
Dispatched - The sender has handed over the package, and it's traveling to or from an international location.
Out for Delivery - Your parcel is on the delivery vehicle and should arrive today.
Delivered - The package reached its destination successfully.
Awaiting Collection - Your item arrived at a post office and is ready for pickup.
Possible Delay - There might be delays due to weather, customs, traffic incidents, or other issues. Check again in a day or contact the sender.
Unable to Gain Access - The delivery driver couldn't access your property (locked gate, dog, or no one home). Your parcel will be taken to a nearby post office.

Tracking number not working?
This happens for several reasons:
Wrong number entered - Double-check for typos or missing characters
System delay - New shipments take up to 24 hours to appear in the system
Old shipment - Tracking data is removed after two months
Not recognized - Wait a day and try again as the system updates
No tracking updates for days?
Parcels sometimes sit without updates during:
Weekend processing
Customs inspections for international items
Transport disruptions or delays
Border crossings
If updates stop for more than three days, contact Australia Post customer service.
"Product Not Trackable" message?
Some services don't include tracking:
Registered Post International (signature on delivery only)
International Economy Air
International Economy Sea
These services won't show tracking events, but your parcel will still be delivered.
